Direct trail access to quintessential RRG routes. Beta, approach times, and what to expect from your luxury base.

The Tree Rappel area represents quintessential Red River Gorge climbing, featuring classic routes on perfect sandstone just three minutes from your basecamp door. This comprehensive guide covers access, routes, and local beta.
Trail Access from Your Basecamp
A well-maintained trail leads directly from your cabin's back yard to the Tree Rappel area. The 0.2-mile approach takes 3-5 minutes and gains minimal elevation, making gear hauling effortless.
Classic Routes and Grades
The area offers climbs from 5.6 to 5.12, with most routes in the 5.8-5.10 range. Classics include "Breakfast Burrito" (5.10c), "Whip-Stocking" (5.11a), and "Air Ride Equipped" (5.11a).
Rock Quality and Features
The Corbin Sandstone provides excellent friction and positive holds. Routes feature technical face climbing, steep overhangs, and the occasional crack system. Rock quality is consistently high.
Approach Beta
From your cabin's deck, follow the marked trail through mixed hardwood forest. The path is well-maintained with minimal erosion. Approach shoes are recommended for the rocky sections near the cliff base.
Seasonal Considerations
The area climbs well year-round, with south-facing aspects receiving morning sun. Summer requires early starts due to afternoon heat, while winter offers excellent conditions on sunny days.
Safety and Ethics
All routes are well-bolted sport climbs. Carry a 70-meter rope for longer routes. Practice Leave No Trace principles and respect private property boundaries.
